NSW Premier - Press Conference - 7 October 2021
NSW PREMIER PRESS CONFERENCE - 7 OCTOBER 2021
Premier:
NSW Premier begins by thanking the health staff involved in vaccinating NSW. NSW reached 70% double-dose vaccination rate yesterday. There are some amendments to the roadmap.
From Monday, the 70% mark, indoor swimming pools will be open and home visitation doubled, outdoor gatherings increased, lifting the cap from 50 to 100 for weddings and funerals. School timetable, the three-tiered system will be brought forward to a two-staged return completed by 25 October.
At the 80% mark, the mask-wearing requirement in the office will be removed. The 5,000 cap remains but venues can apply for higher caps which can be granted. Outdoor gatherings and home visitations will have higher caps.
Deputy Premier:
He thanks people for being vaccinated and thanks to the rural health workers for assisting the rural vaccination rate. This is a roadmap for 'everyone'. Regional workers can return to work with 1 dose with a grace period until 1 November to receive their second dose.
Education Minister:
All students will be back in the classroom by 25 October. The staggered approach will start with K, 1 and Year 12 on 18 October, followed by the remainder on 25 October. 45,000 teachers have advised that they are full vaccinated and ready to return to work.
Minister Ayres:
We will be prioritising COVID-Safe events and outdoor activities. Controlled-fenced ticketed events restrictions lifted from 500 to 3000. Venues will be able to get a venue-based exemption rather than an event-based exemption to exceed the 5000 limit.
Health Minister:
Acknowledges the health staff involved in the vaccination effort. As of Monday, the 11am press conferences will not occur and health data will be released at 9am each day from tomorrow. 587 COVID cases from 112,186 tests.
Comments arising from questions:
Health Minister says some of the issues were able to be reviewed due to the lower case numbers. Crisis Cabinet is now being renamed. We want NSW to open up as quickly and safely as responsible.
Q: What does it say for your respect for Dr Chant that she was not invited to this press conference. A: Premier advised that this press conference is for the elected officials. The health conference will be separate.
The CHO has endorsed the changes to the roadmap. She is part of the Crisis Cabinet and will remain part of the committee moving forward.
80% target is expected at some time in the next couple of weeks. The Premier encouraged everyone to continue receiving their vaccines to allow for that target to be reached as quickly as possible. Vaccination is key to our freedom and to opening up.
QR-Code system updates will be forthcoming over the next couple of days.
NSW Department of Education will not be requiring students to be vaccinated nor will they be asking for student vaccination status as every student has a right to education regardless of medical choices which may be made by their parents.
Nightclubs can open at 80% but seated and without dancing. The current roadmap allows full operations to resume from 1 December.
Most urgent elective surgery has continued, however, other categories of elective surgery have been suspended to allow staff to deal with health pressures.
No changes to TTIQ from the crisis meeting yesterday. All of these changes apply to vaccinated people only.
