COVID: Lockdowns abound across Australia with a mix of lockdowns in parts of WA, NT and NSW and other restrictions and border closures in other states. Originally, lockdown was justified as a means of ensuring hospitals were not overloaded; however, there seems to have been a definite shift from suppression to an elimination strategy. We would never support an elimination strategy as a means to solve the road toll problem (lockdown all vehicles would work), so why is it being implemented with COVID. The fundamental classical liberal freedoms on which our democracy was built are being rapidly jettisoned in favour of the politically popular mandatory vaccinations and lockdowns.
Government Secrecy continues with the rejection of a Freedom of Information (FOI) request for the Rural Fire Service (RFS) report into the backburn at Wilpin in the Blue Mountains. The NSW Government claims that the report will be probative in the upcoming coroner's inquest and has refused to release the document even though the Information Commissioner has recommended its release (Guardian).
High Court has quite a number of interesting cases. The latest to hit the media is a High Court challenge to the so-called NSW Ag-gag laws which prevent the use of illegally recorded footage of agriculture sites, typically publicised by animal rights activists.
Victor Kline, a founder of The New Liberal Party, has announced on Twitter that he is initiating a private criminal prosecution into the Christian Porter rape allegation. The decision not to prosecute a government minister is exactly the kind of situation for which private prosecutions exist. Attempting a private prosecution is a risky endeavour, not only because Kline will be going up against the government, but also because if the prosecution fails he may have to pay Porter's legal costs. Additionally, the Office of the NSW Department of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) may choose to take over the prosecution and can then stop the prosecution.

Trump is back in America on a roadshow creating the usual media frenzy. Also in America, a building collapses leading to calls for scrutiny of all buildings greater than 40-years old.
China continues sabre-rattling.
Countries continue to withdraw from Afghanistan.
The political response to COVID continues to create havoc around the world. Israel with a largely vaccinated population has reinstated mask working as vaccinated people catch and transmit the virus, whilst Singapore has reportedly set a target of 70% vaccination and then live with the virus.
