WorldWatch 21 January 2021 First Press Secretary Press Conference (Biden Administration)
Biden's new press secretary conducts her first press conference and highlights the fact that there will often be disagreements between members of the press core and that is OK.
Biden's executive orders include:
* 100-day mask mandate - federal buildings, etcetera
* Reversed Trump's order to withdraw from WHO
* COVID 19 response co-ordinator
* Extend pause on student loan payments
* Rejoined Paris climate change agreement
* Rollback Trump regulatory environmental and health orders
* Advance racial equity and root out racism from Federal institutions
* DACA to be reinforced for Dreamers
* Ended Muslim travel ban
* Halting funding or construction of the border wall
* Immigration Bill sent to Congress
Press secretary then opened the floor for questions expressing her goal is to share accurate, transparent information. First foreign leader call will be with Canada. Biden said he had received a generous letter from Trump but says that it is private and will not be disclosed. Press Secretary said she did not anticipate a call from Biden to the former President.
When asked about Biden's involvement in the pandemic management, it was said that Biden's key focus is getting the pandemic under control. It has been reported that $500,000 worth of deep cleaning of the WhiteHouse was conducted prior to Biden entering.
The climate crisis is one of the four crisis that Biden has identified that will impact his administration. {The four crisis are reported to be the climate crisis, the COVID crisis, the racial inequality crisis and the economic crisis}
The question was raised about the potential for the impeachment trial to be divisive when Biden's theme is unity. The way to bring the country together is to address the problems the country is facing. The inference was that it was the 'Constitution Duty' of the Senate to impeach Trump. Biden will leave it to Congress to 'carry out their constitutional duty' in terms of holding Trump to account for inciting insurrection on January 6.
Press Secretary side-stepped the abortion question instead deferring to the smoke-screen of claiming that Biden is a devout Catholic. It is the first topic that the Press Secretary has dodged.
The goal is 100 million COVID vaccinations in the first 100 days.
Biden is opposed to the death penalty.
