Political Cartoons are supposed to offend
A recent cartoon in the Australian has caused faux outrage amongst the left with cries of racism, largely because in the cartoon Biden refers to Harris as a little brown girl. Of course, this was, inter alia, a response to Biden’s comment about little brown girls being inspired by Harris. The cartoon contrasted this with Biden decrying racism. The juxtaposition implying that Biden was decrying racism, whilst choosing a VP based on race, as well as conveying several other imputations in relation to Biden, including dementia. Have people forgotten that political cartoons are supposed to offend, supposed to make us feel uncomfortable as a way of challenging a political view. It is time people relaxed and gave themselves time to reflect on the issues being raised. The cartoon is not racist, it is pointing out that often those most vociferously against racism are racist themselves.
